A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, and provide medical treatment.
Psychotherapists (including registered psychotherapists, psychologists, or social workers) provide talk therapy with different modules to help you work through emotional, behavioural, or relational challenges.
If you think medication might be helpful or you would like a full psychiatric assessment, you may wish to see the psychiatrist.
If you are looking primarily for therapy, you can book directly with a psychotherapist.
Many people benefit from both.
Yes. We offer secure virtual appointments as well as in-person sessions.
You may choose whichever option best suits your needs.
To see a psychiatrist in Ontario, OHIP requires a referral from a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
To see a psychotherapist, you can book directly with one without a referral.
Psychiatry services are covered by OHIP if you have a referral from your family doctor or nurse practitioner.
Psychotherapy sessions are not covered by OHIP, as OHIP only funds services provided by physicians (such as psychiatrists).
Most extended health insurance plans (through work, school, or private insurance) cover psychotherapy, psychology, or social work services. Coverage amounts vary, so we recommend checking your plan.
Our psychotherapists accept most insurance companies, and we provide official receipts for reimbursement.
You can contact our office directly by phone or use our online booking form if available.
If you are seeking psychiatry, please ask your family doctor to fax us a referral at (416) 733-4533.

Your first session is mostly about getting to know you. We’ll talk about what brings you in, your goals, and how we can best support you. Think of it as a relaxed conversation to see if we’re a good fit.
Yes. Everything you talk about in therapy is private and confidential. The only exceptions are rare situations where we’re legally required to share information, like if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or concerns about child safety. Otherwise, what you share stays between you and your therapist.
We ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed psychotherapy sessions may be subject to a fee. You can easily manage your appointments through the Jane app.
