When to consider
Children benefit from therapy when they’re experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, school stress, changes in behaviour, trouble making friends, or adjusting to big life events like divorce, loss, or moving. Therapy gives them a safe space to express themselves and learn healthy ways to cope.
Modalities used
Approaches may include play therapy (to help children express emotions), CBT adapted for kids (to address anxious or negative thoughts), parent-child sessions (to strengthen communication at home), and behavioural strategies.
Session length & frequency
Sessions usually last 45–50 minutes, weekly. Parents are often included for updates or skill-building so that therapy tools can be reinforced at home.
Benefits
Children gain skills to manage emotions, improve behaviour, and build confidence. Parents learn strategies to support their child’s growth. Together, this helps the whole family feel more balanced and connected.
